Great blue collar humor
Humor based on another time and another place, the California Central Vally 50 years ago, and loaded with insights of the working class there.

I felt like I was a part of this book.
Everyone interested in Calif. Oklahoma and Texas must read this book to understand how the Great Central Valley was conquered by these three states.

The Greatness That Was Babylon: A Survey of the Ancient Civilization of the Tigris-Euphrates Valley (Great Civilizations Series)
Published in Hardcover by St. Martin's Press (Short) (March, 1991)
Author: H.W.F. Saggs
Average review score:

The Greatness That Was Babylon
This is possibly the most thorough, yet easily readable, text I have come across on ancient Near Eastern history and civilization. Other books by this author also well worth reading are: Civilization before Greece and Rome, Babylonians (from the "Peoples of the Past" series, and The Might That Was Assyria. Saggs is an excellent scholar and provides complete information with little or no bias.

The Greatness That Was Babylon : A Survey of the Ancient
I highly recommend this book on one of the most important cities in human history. Saggs does an excellent job describing the city of Babylon and its history. But perhaps the best thing this book does is describe the culture of the Babylonians themselves. From the government to the daily lives of the people, from religion to the economy, its all here. This book describs Babylon without making it a review of an archeological dig. It turns it into a living city of the ancient world.

Easy to read and full of description and detail, this is one of the best history books I have come across (I was a history major in college) and the best one on Babylon. I can't wait to read Sagg's book on Assyria.

Growing Up Western
Published in Hardcover by Twodot (June, 1997)
Authors: Monty Hall, R. F. Morgan, and Joe Jr. Durso
Average review score:

This book takes me back to my childhood.
I grew up on a ranch in Idaho and now live in the East. This book made me laugh and almost cry as it reminded me of my dad who is an old cattle rancher. I knew this book was truly authentic when I read the boy's stories of his Grandpa "Old Al". I read it in one day, and I am not a big reading type of person. Loved the book and so will you.

Authentic Montana Book
If you want to know what an authentic Montanan is like, read this book. Having lived in Montana for 7 1/2 years and experiencing firsthand the Montana mindset it was refreshing to read about how it developed in one Montanan's life.

Montanans are tough, physically and mentally. They are proud and self-sufficient. As you read this story of a young boy growing up without a father or mother, in the care of his Old West Grandpa and Grandma, you will gain a new appreciation for the folks we call Montanans.

Montana is a great state and Montanans are great people. Read this book for an authentic Montana viewpoint.

The Heart of the Valley
Published in Paperback by Academy Chicago Pub (August, 1992)
Author: Nigel Hinton
Average review score:

on a level with "Tarka the Otter"
a really terrific book. even for one such as myself pretty alergic to nature fiction. The author's identification with his bird protagonist is fabulous.really worth a look.

you'll never look at a bird the same way after reading it !
A fantastic book in the great tradition of nature writing by an author who has the gift to offer us a sensitive story about the life of a bird seen through the hardship and the pleasure of a year ... the story of the bird is also the story of the valley where it lives and the story of the world where we live.

Girft for husband became gift to me!
I bought the book as a gift for my husband as he has wanted to explore the region. It turned out to be a gift to me as he was so inspired by Ms. Kanter's vivid descriptions he has planned a romantic long weekend get away.

Husband planned a romantic weekend
I'm thrilled. I bought the book and gave it to my husband as he has wanted to explore the region. He enjoyed Ms. Kanter's vivid descriptions and got inspired. He has planned a romantic long weekend.

Hats Off for This Hudson Guide
I love the Hudson Valley--from West Point's bastion of training young military leadership to Hyde Park's memorial to Franklin D. and Eleanor Roosevelt to Poughkeepsie's CIA--that's the Culinary Institute of America, famous for scrumptious dinners. Ms. Kanter obviously loves the Valley, too, for it shows in her excellent research and writing. I highly recommend it for anyone who yearns to visit this lovely part of upstate New York. Wake up, Rip Van Winkle!

Hudson Valley Bounty: A Guide to Farms, Fine Foods, and Open-Air Markets
Published in Paperback by Berkshire House Pub (June, 1996)
Author: Jan Greenberg
Average review score:

A great guide especially for peole who love to cook and eat.
We bought this book before heading up to the Hudson Valley and it proved to be invaluable. When we weren't visiting sites like the Roosevelt Museum and Vanderbilt Mansions, we stopped at many of the farms mentioned in the book. All of the farmers knew Jan Greenberg and treated us like old friends. We returned to New York with a hamper full of food which we enjoyed for days afterwards. A book like this is certainly different from your standard guidebooks and gave us a special dimension to our visit to the Hudson Valley.

Great resource for food lovers
When my family moved to the Hudson Valley, we had heard about its agricultural resurgence but it was difficult to find out where to go and who was growing and producing what. Jan Greenberg's book has been a wonderful source for the freshest, just-picked fruits and vegetables. We now buy most of our meat and poultry locally as well. We know that we are eating food that not only tastes good but is grown and raised in a way that makes us feel good about eating it. We also like being able to tell our children the stories about the farmers who raise the food that we are eating. All in all, this is a great resource.

Hudson Valley Harvest: A Food Lover's Guide to Farms, Restaurants, and Open-Air Markets

Must have for Hudson Valley travel
This is THE book for anyone who lives, works, visits or is even thinking of a trip to the Hudson Valley, this bucolic but agriculturally threatened area, just an hour north of New York City. Jan Greenberg not only tells where to buy and eat these outstanding (and tasty) products but in a non-preachy way makes the reader understand why it is important to support these local farmers and producers. Her profiles and stories of the farmers who grow the fruits and vegetables and raise the livestock are truly heartfelt and gave me, and will do the same I think for anyone else who reads them, a new understanding of what is like to be a grower where everything, from weather to the economy, is out of your control. This is the high risk profession!! It makes Wall Street look safe.

Above all, though, this is a book about enjoying food --buying it, serving it and tasting it. As Danny Meyer, owner of New York City's Union Square Cafe and other restaurants known for their support of local farms, writes - "This book deserves a place on the bookshelf (or in the glove compartment) of every itinerant aficionado of New York's bounty." He's right.

We loved it
We bought this book before a weekend trip to the Hudson Valley and can't imagine traveling to the area without it. It has everything you would want to know about the farmers and what they are growing and producing. It tells you where and what to eat and how to use what you buy at a farmstand or local farmers market. It also made us really think about the people who grow the food. Their stories are uniformly interesting, even moving. The author has a pleasingly gentle touch when she writes about issues so much in the news today like organics, the humane treatment of animals and keeping small farms viable. Even if you aren't visiting the Hudson Valley, this is definitely a worthwhile book to have and read.

In Love Again (Sweet Valley High No. 59)

The Once Again Love at SWH
Sweet Valley High was a fanstastic story . The setting of the book was in a high school in Sweet Valley in the present time .The main characters are Elizabeth and her, twin sister Jessica and Elizabeth's boyfriend Steve .My favorite character was Jessica because she had patience with everyone, She always had happy thoughts about everyting and she was the funniest one in the book. My favorite part of the book was when Jessica had an argument with Corteny the most popular girl in school . I would recommend this book to all girls and guys that are interested in romance and that like to have fun, because this is the type of book I like to read.

good book
i think that it's a good thing that todd and elizabeth are back, because everyone knew they are the best-looking couple in school.well of course, before todd came back elizabeth was seeing jeffery, and they make a good couple too.jeffery didn't want to lose elizabeth, but how could he keep her anyway,i mean todd and elizabeth have known each other since kids.
